StageOn

Privacy Policy

Last updated: 31 July 2026

StageOn is a stage companion app for musicians. Most of what you do in it — your songs, setlists, layouts and settings — is stored only on your own device. Everything below describes the specific cases where data leaves your device, and every one of those is either something you switch on yourself or something you trigger by using a particular feature.

We do not sell your data, we do not share it with advertisers, and there is no advertising in the app.

1. What stays on your device

Your song library, setlists, chord and lyric text, performance notes, tags, stage layouts, transpose and tempo settings, chord notation preference, display settings and language are stored locally on your device. If you never sign in and never use the sharing, search or feedback features, this information never leaves your device.

2. Account (optional)

You can use StageOn without an account. Creating one is only required for cloud backup and for sending songs or setlists to another person by email.

3. Cloud backup (optional)

If you sign in and use Back Up Now, or leave automatic backup running, the following is uploaded to Google Firestore under your account:

Backup is a two-way merge, not an upload of everything every time. You can delete all of it — see Deleting your data.

4. Sharing songs and setlists

Sending to someone by email

To let a bandmate receive a song or setlist at their email address, we keep a lookup record that links a normalised form of an email address to the corresponding account ID. This exists so the app can tell whether the address you typed belongs to a StageOn user. Both people must be signed in.

Shared setlists

A setlist you deliberately share is stored in Firestore together with the list of people you shared it with, so that everyone's copy can stay up to date.

Sharing to a nearby device

Handing a song or setlist to a nearby device sends it directly between the two devices over your local network. It does not require an account and the content is not uploaded to us.

5. Band Sync

6. Searching for songs

When you search for a song you do not already have, the words you type are sent to the services below in order, until one of them returns a result. Only your search text is sent; your library is not.

Capturing a chord sheet from a web page opens that page in a normal in-app browser; the site you visit sees that visit as it would any other.

7. Analytics and crash reports

We use Firebase Analytics and AppFig to understand how the app is used, and Firebase Crashlytics to find out when it breaks. This covers:

These reports do not contain your lyrics, chords, song titles or setlist names.

8. Feedback form

If you use Send Feedback in Settings, we receive the message you write, the app version, your device model, your operating system version, and — only if you are signed in — your email address and account ID, so we can reply. It is stored in a private spreadsheet.

9. Device permissions

PermissionWhy StageOn asks
MicrophoneThe tuner listens to your instrument to detect its pitch. The audio is analysed on your device as it arrives and is never recorded, stored or sent anywhere.
CameraScanning a bandmate's Band Sync QR code. No photo is saved.
Local networkFinding and connecting to bandmates' devices for Band Sync.
BluetoothA fallback way to find nearby bandmates when network discovery does not work.
Location (Android)Older versions of Android require this permission before an app is allowed to scan for Bluetooth devices. StageOn does not collect, use or store your location.
Files and photosOnly used when you pick a file to import a library or setlist from.

The app asks for each of these at the moment you first use the feature that needs it, not at launch.

10. Who processes data for us

11. Keeping and deleting your data

Cloud backup data is kept while your account exists. In Settings you can:

You can also ask us to delete anything associated with you by writing to the address below. Depending on where you live you may have the right to request a copy of your data, correct it, or object to how it is used; the same address applies.

12. Children

StageOn is intended for a general audience and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.

13. Changes to this policy

If this policy changes in a way that affects you, we will update the date at the top of this page. Continuing to use the app after a change means you accept the updated policy.
